Photo of the Week -Trumpeter Swans

We drove through the Seney National Wildlife Refuge and stopped at the visitor center.  There we found a pair of trumpeter swans on the pond near the parking lot.  I couldn't decide which of these 2 photos I liked the best, so I posted them both.

I watched these guys for about 10 minutes and never saw both of them with with their heads out of the water at the same time.  It reminded me of the proverbial ostriches with their heads stuck in the sand.

About that time some idiot's car alarm went off, and both swans raised their heads to see what the ruckus was about.  So I snapped this shot.  This was just after Dorcas had gotten tired of waiting for me and had gone back to the car to wait.   We had left Matilda in the car with the windows down and doors locked.  Dorcas had reached through the window and unlocked the door from the inside.  That is when we first realized the Pilot even had an alarm.

Photo of the Week - The Photographic Technique

One may wonder how we get all those great rolling-down-the-road windshield shots.   How are those superb, sharp, and well-composed photos taken in a speeding RV careening down a mountain?  What artist produces those great images?  Dorcas does!  And it's all made possible by her patented 5-point stance, namely, left foot on the floor, right foot in the step well, left hand on the dashboard and, most importantly, two butt cheeks clinched tightly on the co-pilot seat.  Who needs a tripod when you are a living quintrapod?

So there it is.  That's the secret.

But who photographs the photographer?   Hummmmmm .....

Photo of the Week - Gobble Gobble Gobble

This gal came prancing through our yard on the day before we left home for our Great Rocky Mountain Adventure.  Perhaps she came by to wish us Bon Voyage.  More likely she was casing he joint and was going to move in when we left.

Photo of the Week: One Bighorn to Another

Two bighorn sheep in Rocky Mountain National Park:

If you thought this guy was talking about anything other than his horns, your mind is in the gutter.

Photo of the Week - Beer truck

Folks who know me know I love craft beers.  Alaskan Brewing Company in Juneau makes some of my favorite brews.  I found this van stocked with Alaskan beers and am towing it home behind the Element.   PARTY ON!!!

Photo of the Week - Gertrude and Heathcliff

A conversation overheard between two bald eagles perched in a tree:

Mature bald eagle:  "I think I have fleas"

Immature bald eagle:  "Me too!"

Photo of the Week: Not a Trash Can

This poster was found in the washroom (that's what they call a restroom here in Canada) in the Banff Public Library.

Photo of the Week

Have you ever had one of those days?  I don't mean me, but the red squirrel that sneaked into our coach.  The screen door was closed, but he came through a small sliding panel in the door (the one Dorcas is always scolding me for not shutting).  Once he was in I'm sure he regretted it.  Dorcas screamed, and I was laughing hysterically.  We chased him for a minute or two, trying to keep Matilda out of the fray.  Finally he jumped on me, and I was able to fling him out the door.  He was never seen again.  It was all very exciting.

Photo of the Week

It is not unusual for RV Parks to have dedicated, private unisex shower rooms.  And it is also not unusual for Dorcas and me to share one, even if there are other unoccupied shower rooms available.  But I have never found a place that actually suggested co-showering.

That's what I'm talkin' about!

You can buy anything at the Sam's Club in La Crosse Wisconsin!

Unfortunately, we didn't have room in the storage bay for this purchase.  Besides, Dorcas wouldn't let me.

While pumping diesel in Osseo in western Wisconsin we saw this.   What????

Photo of the Week - Cost of Fuel

Remember way back when, when the price of diesel fuel was less than the cost of regular unleaded?  Perhaps it was so long that gasoline still contained lead.  In any case, at many stations in Illinois diesel was cheaper than unleaded, or maybe I should say that the price of unleaded was even more outrageous than diesel.

Go figure,

Garlic onion pies are very popular at the Cherry Bowl diner in Honor Michigan. DANG! We had to settle for blueberry.

Who says the Everglades are flat?

We had to stop halfway up the hill to the pass in order to acclimate to the altitude, but we took it easy and made it without too much difficulty.

Everywhere you looked in Key West there was a southernmost something or other. I doubt this was really the southernmost broken cleat, but I admire the gesture.

Photo of the Week

We saw this truck on a frosty morning while driving near Brooksville FL. I don't think it's a vanity plate, but a real, standard issue plate. Most states' DMVs delete certain profane, rude, fowl or otherwise inappropriate words from the word combinations used on their license plates. I guess this one made it through the DMV's censors. In any case it certainly describes our trip to Florida so far this year

Photo of the Week

This photo is for our friends back home in NC. Coincidentally, our three favorite paddling couples own very small hard-side campers all made by A-Liner. None, however, are as small as this number, the A-Lite, parked near us at Lake Griffin State Park. When any one asks how many people our coach sleeps our standard answer is always "two", notwithstanding the number of beds we have. This baby sleeps four, but everyone has to be shorter than 5' 6" and must sleep standing up.

Photo of the Week

The macaw said "Look at the colorful plumage on those goofy tourists!"

If only just one of the goofy tourists had been wearing a red poncho, this would have been the perfect photo.
